Therefore it'd seem that whatever goes up (in one direction) must come down (in the other) at the same size. It seems unlikely that there is any transcoding done on Steam's servers. That's very rare on copper if it's a requirement for uplink. Worse, looking at the original post, it's 10 to 30 Mbps connection required. On the remote player systems, it should be more than sufficient - the need there will almost certainly be for the download to be at 10 Mbps, whilst upload will be much lower. Unless there's some sort of multicasting going on, I'm guessing that 10 Mbps upload speed on the host is going to be insufficient. NBN is faster than ADSL, but still asymmetric - for example, my NBN plan is 25 Mbps down, but only 5 Mbps up. Reason being, pretty much all Internet out here is asymmetric - either ADSL, or NBN. Speaking as an Australian, I have to ask: is that 10 Mbps upload, or download speed? What sort of upload speed does the host need to have in order for this to work?
